I am not sure of the term for the strap that acts with the mainspring to drive the carriage. Anyway I have this unit that the strap is completely disconnected from the typewriter and I have no idea how to put it back in place so it functions. I could use direction on how to fix. The carriage is in place and its not broken down. i would appreciate any help available.
thanks
Bill

It is for No 5, but they share the same draw band, carriage and main spring scheme.

It is generally called the drawstrap or drawband.  Super easy to repair, just make sure that yours is intact, unrepaired, and retains the mounting hardware on either end.  Sometimes I see drawbands that have been stitched in the middle which can make them a bit too short to function properly.  I assume you are reusing the original?  When rewinding the mainspring on a standard desktop, usually the carriage is pulled with about 2 pounds of force.
