Lovely story -- the passing of the previous generation of repairmen to the next generation. Inspiring, really. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/11/20/us/typewriter-repair-seattle-bremerton.html?smid=url-share

Glad to see some photos of Paul's mew shop location.  They used to be across the street in a 5 story office building (up on the 5th. floor) and are now on the ground floor in a building dating from 1910 with a garage door along the back side alley.

I am aware of several long-time repair shops that have given up their retail-space overheads and now work out of a home/garage set-up.  It has allowed them to lower their re-sale prices in doing so.

This makes me want to go visit. It's been 3-4 years since I was last there.

Thanks Fleetwing for the story. There are some fun stories in the comments, too. (e.g. when IBM stopped production of the Selectric, they offered a free Selectric to IBM employees that requested it. There was enough demand that they fired the production line up so that everyone could have one).
