I'd love to get my hands on an Underwood 1! However... it looks like the price will go out of range for me pretty soon... But I'll keep my eye on it.

Id bid,but I see some, actually alot of rust. And as Ztyper said, that things going to be 100+ pretty soon.
I for one am stunned at the asking prices for these types on eBay. Most are complete junk. I found my 1909 No.3 12" Standard at a local flea market for $25.00. All it needed was a replacement ribbon and a clean to loosen a few sticky keys and make it look nice and shiney. It works like new or a near new as anyone can get them to type these days, As I plan on using it, I had it serviced a few weeks ago and it types so much better. I suspect given a competent Underwood trained technician it would be even better as I'm not sure how many early Underwood's my local repair shop has even seen, so I do wonder how often they even see, or how familiar they are with a machine well over 100 years old.
