Well that helped a lot. It was tricky to do. What I ended up doing was detaching the cord, winding the drum one full turn, and reattaching it. Thanks again!

Hey Sky, I noticed one bit of weirdness this afternoon. If you type all the way until the bell rings and keep going the carriage does not quite reach the margin stop. It stops about a space short and will keep typing over the same letter. If you exert a little pressure on the right side of the carriage, it moves to the margin stop and you can no longer type. Is this normal? What do you think?

Well that did it! I followed Sky's instructions and the carriage now moves normally. Many thanks!

Okay, I'm on it! When you say remove the cover I assume you mean the bottom one. I'll do this and report back.

I have an Underwood Olivetti Studio 44. It works great except when typing the carriage starts to falter as you reach the right margin. It's as if it doesn't have enough tension once you get to that side. If I put my hand on it and exert a bit of pressure it will operate normally (i.e., move when a letter is typed, ding the bell, etc.).

I should mention that it works fine until you get close to the end of the typed line (right margin). Anything I can do to get it working properly again?  Thank you!

Sorry guys, CR is carriage return. So you think the eyelet is the problem?

Yes, better to leave it alone. Another question:

I just put a new ribbon in and every time I CR the ribbon reverses away from the take up spool so the ribbon stops within a few words on the eyelet embedded towards the end of the ribbon. I move the reverse mechanism back into the right direction but again as soon as I CR its reverses.

What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

That's a good question. I would just like to know what's causing it and if I can fix it.
