Portable Typewriters » Has anyone examined the new 'We R Memory Keepers' typewriter - UGH ! » 18-2-2018 19:31:42

The Royal Epoch is featured in the Vermont Country Store catalogue in the States.
https://www.vermontcountrystore.com/searchresults?Ntt=ytpewriter&Nty=1&No=0&Nrpp=12&Rdm=708&searchType=simple&type=search

The catalogue has been in business for many years. It seems to draw response from retirees of both sexes for clothing and underwear, cosmetics and masculine requisites, medical remedies and appliances, candy and baked goods, and analog household appliances. If you were a propmeister setting up a 1950s production ... this is the place.

I buy soap-on-a-rope there. At 83, , I need a soap in the shower that will stay put!

Portable Typewriters » Olympia SM9 with German Keyboard » 18-2-2018 16:09:30

I've found, as a buyer, DHL and Deutsche Poste are good, Polska Poste is slow, and Czecha Posta is good.

I have an Olympia SM9 with a qwerty keyboard I got here in the States. It is not my usual subcompact portable. I got it because it is the inspiration for the series of paintings in the book The Story of my Typewriter.

Portable Typewriters » Smith-Corona Skyriter » 18-2-2018 15:47:08

As usual, my comments are based on design. I have the Skywriter and the Corsair for comparison of US brands with the shift in time and competition in the 60s from Europe and Japan. Both models are interesting examples: the Skywriter, made in the US and in metal, and the more competitive and later model the Corsair. This design for lower factory cost was a co-op US/UK under SCM and made from plastic in the UK.

I think you might find both models interesting if you are into the aesthetics of mid-century design.

Portable Typewriters » Ultraportable recommendation » 18-2-2018 15:30:10

I suggest two ultra portables jusy for their design:

The Gosser Tippa, the original ... before the Adler Tippa. I have both because of the award-winning redesign of the Adler Tippa 3 under Grundig.

The Groma Kalibri. The typewriter featured in The Lives of Others.

Regardless of color, model, horsepower, ethnicity, or shoe size, congratulations on the fantastic job of restoration!

Off-Topic » Fountain Pen Users Here? » 15-1-2018 12:57:16

fountainpennetwork.com ... a great resource and easier to read, reply, and post or comment than typewriter.boardhost. This may be because their are many more pen collectors. Idomate to it and now it accepts advertising, which does only limited damage.

I have found typewriter fanciers among the readership.

NB   a couple of these are here for other reasons as I written vefore, The Olympia MS9' because of the book and the Valentine because of Ettore Sossasse.

The rest stand on their own.

I am trying to record the popularity of smaller, well-designed Mid XXth C ultras by compare and contrast with good examples of each. I want to illustrate the slowness of US manufacturers to adapt in the late 50s-early 60s.

I think I need a sample of a Nakajima US private label but I don't have a clue as to a brand.

Your thoughts please!

Portable Typewriters » Any difference: the Remington Model 5 Portable and the Streamilner? » 12-1-2018 16:08:05

Hi, Uwa,

No need to mention brain farts and etcetera ... the detritus of living into olde age. I am farting along at 83.

I collect/accumulate quickly because how much time do I have.

Best,

Dick
