And had I read your instructions carefully, I would have known to gently pull on that little knob first !

Wow! You are correct! It took me several minutes of trying to turn that little knob (which is clearly designed to be turned), but to no avail. Then, I gently pulled it away from the platen, THEN rotated. Success! Thanks so much!

I was wondering if there is an adjustment for double space typing on this machine...I do not see a way to set the spacing. Thanks!

Hi all.
As a newbie to the vintage typewriter movement, I am seeking advice on how best to evaluate a typewriter for purchase from an online source. Sadly, local options are very meager in my area. Any tips appreciated!
Thanks. Dr. Deb

Hi all.
I am interested in either the smith corona silent or olympia sm 3. I see gorgeous machines on line fully restored for $450-750. I have little access to true typewriter gurus (closest shop to me has not done a great job on my hermes rocket or Remmington Remette). Given that, is it ever worth purchasing a fully restored machine, or better to get one that needs work (oh so hard to sort out on line) and try to find someone to restore it....thanks so much for your input!
