Any idea why the ribbon just stops once it reaches its end? There is a kind of rivet at each end of the ribbon. Do they have a function? Thanks.

Thanks. The problem when I bought it was the black/red/white lever was jammed on white. Maybe that's why it is hardly used. I reached in to the works with my fingers and got it on black but the lever is still jammed. As it's working fine now (I won't need red or white) I think I'll let well alone - I can be quite clumsy!

Thanks for the quick reply. Not as easy as I would have thought. I thought just removing the bottom 4 screws would allow the black base to come off but it doesn't. Do the screws under the carriage need to come off too to get the base off? I may be able to see whats wrong from underneath.

Have just acquired a delightful Silver Reed (12") in amazing condition. The ribbon colour button is not so healthy though. I can't seem to figure out how to get the green casing off. I've removed 2 screws in the top and even 4 screws from underneath. Any ideas? Thanks folks!
