I've just ordered my kids a k'nex gears set for Christmas. Ostensibly it is to stimulate their engineering creativity, but really it is because I want to make a ribbon winder.

Oh, and this is mostly because I picked up a bunch of free carbon ribbons at the typewriter meeting and winding those onto spools is extremely tedious. I don't know how long they are, but they are looongggg.

Sounds like a competition looming;

Hmm, we'd better start a new thread though, lol.

Greetings. New member here. I'm a long time typewriter collector and restorer. My focus has been on collecting outstanding examples of front stroke visible machines that have the mature technology of tabs, margin release, backspace, etc. My earliest machine is a Fox 24 and my latest machine is a Remington Super-Writer from the early 50's.
Glad to be here.

Well met gents, the name's Bango! Quick summary: State of Iowa native, Radon Mitigator, Stephen King fan, Volvo Driver, and Drummer. I have just recently taken the plunge into the wonderful world of the ole typemachine and have started my first restoration on a '46 Underwood Universal Portable.
I have been casually browsing the forum for a few months now and figured it was about time to register. I'm looking forward to conversing with you fine folk and sharing my adventures with you!

Hello Everyone!!
I entered here searching for information to restore an underwood champion for my girlfriend. I am mechanical engineer, so I am naturally fascinated for all these old-fashioned machine, and the more I investigate about them, the more I want to buy another one and restore for myself.
After giving the underwood to santa, I will directly go and buy another thing to restore.
