Re: Your Ebay watch list

I've just run across another script-not-script listing.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Voss-DeLuxe-Script-Typewriter-/141833471226?hash=item2105ef04fa:g:ag8AAOSwl8NVgJYV

I asked for a type sample and it is not script.  I sent the seller a quick note about it.  I'll see what he/she says.

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Well, if you clicked on my link you can see the seller changed it.  He/she had just made an honest mistake and didn't really know what script was.

Once you see the phantasmagorical insect face in this thing...

I challenge you to stop laughing! I hope some kind person might give this artifact a proper home. I cannot adopt it. I do not have space to give it proper exercise.

Re: Your Ebay watch list

I think that's a Hammond Vari-Typer.  It is remarkable looking.  Some folks here may "need" that item....

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Its definitely a hammond, although I don't think its a vary typer, since I think those were black and looked different.

Back from a long break.

Starting fresh with my favorite typer. A Royal Futura!

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Curious. I rather like it, but I imagine the shipping would kill it. Trying to picture the crate you'd need to protect it!

Re: Your Ebay watch list

From where I sit on the East Coast of the US to where this alien caught hiding out among the typewriters sits in greater Los Angeles (Zork! Quick! There is no time to hide! We must mimic some machine!),calculated shipping based on weight and size given by the seller is about $97. I thought at first this might be enough to ship it safely, but now I'm not sure. It would indeed need to be packed in a large crate and probably go motor freight, and I don't think that's going to cover it.

A strange thing happened to my post. Underneath the link I put ...

"httq://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Antique-Typewriter-Unknown-Brand-Howard-Industries-Motor-/172017474954"

(but minding my p's and q's) which I tested and found to take you directly to the listing and just tested again. But underneath the link now is some HUGE automatically generated script thingie which takes you to a list of suggestions including the listing! How could this have happened?

Zork!
Yes, Zaltar!
I think you are being sold on eBay! What machine did you mimic!?
A typewriter, Zaltar! Our researches had shown they were without value!

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Possibly "stencil setting" discount here for a fairly nice burgandy Smith & Corona portable.  Listing says the ribbon doesn't come up when typing, pictures clearly show stencil selected.  Cost $85, "buy it now".

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Yet another seller describing regular typeface as script, this time in multiple auctions. I sent a message. Gah!

makes me wonder what they did to 'service' the machine too...

Re: Your Ebay watch list

Probably wiped it over with a damp cloth and sprinkled some lemon oil on it
