I tried to write an essay tonight but the vintage ribbon disintegrated on the first reverse of direction, and that was so distracting to fix that I lost my train of thought. But I'm sure if I can just get out a few essays, why, a great book will kind of write itself! It may be a story about a man who founds a religion based on his self-referential typewriter blogging and his typewriter parables (For, when the platen has hardened do not the type slugs suffer?), though I, the author, am of course not doing this very thing, and am only an ironic observer. That way the great book faeries may give me a pass.
I suspect I'm already an adept to this new religion!
I like the idea that it's a short distance between poking the keys every now and then, to a great novel. That in itself sounds like religious faith, the substance of things hoped for, the evidence for things not seen!

I've used my machines for writing letters to the editor. I've written recipes. I've typed research papers, resumes, cover letters, and have remastered class assignments. I've used them to type out exams when I was an instructor. But now, mostly what I use them for is to write love letters to my girlfriend. She counts over 3200 so far in the nearly thirteen years we've been together. I can't recall just how many pages and keystrokes I've been responsible for in the nearly forty years I've been typing.

3200?! That's quite a bit, even over the course of 13 years... But I'm glad she gets something out of your love for both her, and typewriters
