Beak - I knew you'd be shocked! Well - I think in a way I felt like it was too good for me. I was worried about damaging it. & I think I feel more comfortable with smaller machines... I also needed both the space and the money. And the Alpina maybe a little too much about its looks? It was lovely to type on but not, somehow, more than the sum of it. Somehow just not quite me.
What I HAVE got now, that is totally me and which I will never sell, is my amazing 1955 Groma Modell T. It's ineffably gorgeous (see: a greenish grey, a wonderful shape, understated and surprisingly compact) and a dream to use. And a slightly beat-up Kolibri, missing its backspace keytop but with a much better touch than the others I've tried. The two Gromas cost just under half of what I got for the Alpina.

Jeez.... Well... Im always trying to get my dream typewriter, which is common but not in my area! A blind strike remington.... But I would never stop collecting if I found one. I enjoy bringing typewriters back to life.

I do indeed empathize; I have the previous all-metal model (green crinkle finishes) complete with everything and all in absolutely mint condition, and I use it rarely because I don't want to be the one to damage it. I guess I should pass this one on too, but I will certainly keep the 1960s version (cream & grey - like yours?), which I can't see that I'll ever part with willingly.

I started off just trying to get hold of anything that was old and charming, (Remington portable 2) or sleek and cool (lettera 22) or curvy and gorgeous (Corona Silent). But then I started getting into drawing with typewriters, so now I'm looking for interesting typefaces and characters. I was (still am) over the moon to find a 6cpi mahcine and right now I'm really happy with my Imperial good companion no.5 with the maths/scintific characters (£7.99 hehehehehehe). I am kind of on the lookout for a Cyrillic typeface, and a Greek typeface and the most impossible, a musical notation typer. More impossible than a Fraktur?! But really, so happy with my Imperial and the pi characters etc, that my searching has become rather half-hearted - to the relief of my family!

Beak, yes, cream and grey, and so utterly lovely... but I'm so in love with the Groma Modell T now that it's put everything else out of my mind.
