Ive been busy the past week, so Ill probably be doing some more of it next week possibly. I have a Bennett on the way, so I really want to post a thread about that too.

Sorry to break in. I have No.4 on the go now - but someone got to it before me and they removed the carriage rails, thereby losing the bearings. All else is there and I do like understrikes - so...
Could someone send me a photo of the bearings and any races? An approximate diameter for the bearings (and how many there are front and back) would be nice to know. I note that the front rail allows generous adjustment and have actually got it moving nicely with some bearings I had to hand (except for the bearings bunching and occasionally dropping out so I need to know how it should be).
Incidentally, the return strap was broken and I played with various materials before eventually making another that works well (and looks good) using 0.2mm phosphor bronze sheet. avs@nolandmines.com (that's the day job).

Yep, I can try and get you what you want. I happen to have 2 extra bearings too, but I lost the 3rd..
I also have an extra draw band if you need it, actually I have an entire parts machine....
By chance, was that the one on eBay?

Don't make me feel bad... it's going on a year since I've had my SP and I've barely started...

Well, actually, Im not THAT far into disassembly yet... Carriage off, tope base thingy off, spacebar and first row of keys off, some type bars off, mainspring off, etc.

Heres the first part on how to build a Smith Premier!

For anyone who plans on complete disassembly: Getting those key linkages in will take an hour or two EACH row!
