Re: Ooops i've gone and done it again....

I've never heard that before, and it would surprise me if it was true given some of the machines that I've seen cork platens on, including wide carriage models used for bookkeeping. It makes even less sense when you consider that a harder platen would make it easier to cut a stencil on and cork is pretty compliant.

The pronoun has always been capitalized in the English language for more than 700 years.

Also that cork platens sometimes appear on portables, which would not be the first choice for cutting stencils.  Cork was simply an alternative option.

Re: Ooops i've gone and done it again....

Hi People,

Lots of interesting replies. I am just pleased that my Underwood is correct as it stands.
The carriage return strap decided to snap on me while I was cleaning, so a quick replacement was made using the original metal end pieces and a boot lace. So all back to working again.
With all the cleaning and removal of the old oil/grease/gunk, things are just getting better and better.
The only real problem i'm having is with the 'Backspace ' key which is very gunked up still and will not return to it's proper place once pressed (I have to pull it back up to get things working again). So I need to have a proper look at this at some time.

Thanks All,
Alan.
