Postage in the UK

What are the best postal services for TW's in the UK?

Looking at the prices for Royal Mail and Parcel Force seems to be super expensive, but on the other hand MyHermes and Yodel, are really cheap. The problem is MyHermes and Yodel both have terrible reputations, and i personally have had awful experiences with Yodel in the past, so would prefer to avoid those carriers.

Any recommendations or tips?

Thanks

Re: Postage in the UK

I send all my typewriters by Parcel Force 48.  No carrier is perfect, but Parcel Force seem to be better than most.  With the cheaper carriers, you get what you pay for.  Parcel Force always have to get a signature when they deliver a parcel.  Someone sent me an Olympia portable by My Hermes once, and because I wasn't in, they chucked the parcel over a six-foot high gate at the side of my house.  I think you can guess the result !  It goes without saying that you should pack a typewriter properly before sending it in any case.  You need at least a couple of inches of bubblewrap or crushed newspaper balls between any part of the machine and the outside of the box when sending a portable.  Large cast-iron framed machines do not travel well and the only safe way to send them is by car or van, avoiding postal services altogether.
