Yeah, and one more thing:  Typewriters don't climb refrigerators in the hopes that you'll be walking by so they can pounce on you, like cats routinely do.  I would imagine that being pounced on by an IBM Executive or an Olympia SGE would require hospitalization for the owner.

No they don't.  However, I learned a trick to make it so that my ribbon didn't move while the cats were laying on top of a covered typewriter.  Put it on the stencil setting!

But I think I forgot to do that last night on a standard.  Oops!

Good trick, colrehogan!  But this raises an important question (in relative terms) - on earlier machines the ribbon moves for the space bar and for later machines, no. So for earlier machines does the ribbon move in stencil setting?

I'm at around seven at present. It is starting to get a bit crowded in my office, but I think I have a plan: as I restore more old machines, I'm going to donate them to my university's writing center where they can be displayed and used. We'll see if it works.
