Bought a little black crinkle with the black glossy pinstripes Smith Corona Silent portable. It seems the ? key was purposely removed (Nothing broken). The type bar is there, but the keyboard is missing. Id like to buy one...

I assume these parts are for a 4- and not a 5-series model (both were available in black crinkle with stripes). And that the key index is for a question mark (?) and slash (/) combo?

Is this the model with the "floating shift" written on the shift keys? I'm on the lookout for a local parts machine. I need the left margin stop due to the bell trip (is that what's it's called?) has broken off. If I find one, I'll contact you.

No, the 4-series keys have clear plastic index covers with metal trim whereas the 5-series keys are solid plastic.

Ok Uwe, its the 4 then.
IGotz, It does say floating shift. I would also hate to take a key off that...
If you end up getting one, CONTACT ME!

My intention in pointing it out was not to just take the key off. "If" one couldn't restore it, it would be a inexpensive option to take a chance with. Looks like a good learning project as well. Yes, I'll keep you in mind.
