I saw this book typewriter today at an the Ohio Valley Antique Mall, just north of Cincinnati. I think it is an Elliott Fisher. I have seen them online, but never in person. This one was mounted to its own typewriter desk. I am not sure if it worked, because with the $450 dollar price tag, I wasn't going to play with it. It was awesome to see nonetheless.

Very cool. I'd be sorely tempted to buy it (after confirming it was complete and in relative good order), so I am glad that Cincinnati, although relatively close, is just far enough away that I won't do anything foolish.
Technically these are "book recording" typewriters, not for someone to type a book with, but for recording data on bound sheets. They were used by legal firms, government offices, and companies that were required to keep indelible records, which normally would have been handwritten. There were numerous variations of the machine for tasks such as accounting and automatic feed recording, and Elliott Fisher did manufacture versions of them.
The one in the photo could have been made by Elliott Fisher, there are parts on it that I do recognize, but then again I'm not well versed in these specialized machines. I can see a sticker on the top that says "bookkeeping machine" so I think it's safe to say what this one was used for.
