inherited 3 typewriters, need advice re supplies

while I am waiting on my *purchased* typewriter (olympia) to get here, I inherited 3 typewriters from my girlfriend's family. 2 ibm selectric IIs and a brother SX-14.  the IBMS do not work at all, though I guess it is just from being locked up in a storage closet for 20+ years or so. the brother works very well, but I need advice re maintenance, what supplies I need to keep it working, etc.

also who can look at these two IBMSs/?

Re: inherited 3 typewriters, need advice re supplies

There seem to be a lot of nonfunctioning Selectrics out there, sad to say. But I think the good news is that because these were the dominant office typewriter for a long time, there should be a fair number of places around that can fix them. Check with office equipment service and sales places near you to see if they service these machines.

I'm not familiar with the Brother -- electronic? Load up on ribbon and correction tapes for it. If an electronic goes, it goes, and there's not much you can do to fix it without there being parts.

How long until the Olympia arrives? Which model?

On the Selectrics, check with your bank, since many still use them to complete forms, and ask who does their local maintenance.

SM-9, I think you mean -- one of the SG models (the office standard size) would be too dang big to ship! Here's hoping your typewriter arrives safe and sound. You will love it.
