Oh yes, that was why I put it off for so long with this machine; not details found on how to set the machine correctly.
I simply used the 'sheet of paper' method: arranging the carriage such that there was just a little grip on the paper by the slug at each end of the carriage.   I may have had fool's luck with this, but it seems perfect.  I don't actually advise anyone else to try it because, as Uwe indicates, I'm sure it could go wrong very easily.

Just the non-rising basket / section to fix now!
