[Olympia SG3] Carriage stuck

Hi,
I cleaned my sg3 (with mineral spirit) and I oiled it.
Unfortunately since,  the carriage does not move always when I type. When it happens even the carriage release lever does not work. The carriage seems stuck. I move a little bit and it works again.
I feel that it does only on some keys.

I'm disappointed because I was careful and all seems ok apart from that.

in your opinion what is the problem?

PS: happy new year everyone

Re: [Olympia SG3] Carriage stuck

It could be that when the carriage was installed, it didn't go back all the way down.  try removing it and re-installing it.  And, while the carriage is off, try disengaging the carriage lock underneath it to see if the carriage travel on its tracks is good.  More than likely, there is an alignment issue whenever the carriage is reinstalled back onto the typewriter.

Oh yes, has everyone eaten their black-eye peas and cabbage (to those of you who don't like cabbage, use cole slaw--it has cabbage in it, but you don't have the smell of boiled cabbage.

Was this comment intended for a different forum?? Please take care not to clutter this typewriter forum with off-topic comments, however clever, that are so far remote from the subject.

Re: [Olympia SG3] Carriage stuck

Thank you for your help TypewriterKing.
If the carriage is not on the machine it moves when I press the carriage  release lever and the lever under the carriage (in the middle). Mainspring is ok.
The carriage seems to me well installed.
The carriage seems stuck without reason when I type. I move it a little bit to unstick.
It can be a problem of alignment as you say but it would be more serious because I removed and put back the carriage several times and the problem has always been there.

I do not understand the system to make it move the carriage when I type. On my other typewriter it is much simpler.

For the second message, my English is not very good and for a second I thought "where are the black-eye peas and cabbage on my typewriter"...
... And I realized that you made a mistake.

Re: [Olympia SG3] Carriage stuck

All typewriter carriages have some sort of adjustment. Sometimes they get out of alignment and parts will rub on each other. I've never seen an Olympia, so I don't know where this is located...

Re: [Olympia SG3] Carriage stuck

TypewriterGuy,the typewriter was working perfectly until I remove the carriage. I never had a problem.

Anyone have a solution for this problem?

Re: [Olympia SG3] Carriage stuck

Unfortunately, difficult to diagnose without seeing all the parts. One thing I've learned when I started is that machines can get worse upon initial cleaning. Disturbing all the years of buildup can initially make the machine worse. since it was working before cleaning and now after, it tells me that you need to do more cleaning perhaps around the escapement area? Clean, clean, clean first! Simple approach before removing any more parts. I've had good results using Hoppe's gun cleaner on the escapement area.
