SG1 Escapement
Types fine, then it may stop for a character. Space bar seems stiff. Sometimes machine will lock up entirely, and eventually with carriage release, it's a very raspy sound. Then just as quickly it settles down. Backspace also stiff and hangs.
Seems like escapement to me, but I'm not sure what to do short of taking it in for repair. Butt I'd like to see if I can figure it out. Any ideas where to start?

No expert, but I cured an SG1 escapement problem once by a detailed and patient visually comparison of my machine to pictures of one in perfect condition. There is, for instance, a page in the EBay collector's notes about the SG1 containing repair pictures, and there will be other sources. Good luck.
