Ribbon cog stiff side

Hi - just learning how to repair - I have a Facit TP1- the cog that the ribbon sits on is very stiff - it's only one side - the other side is fine - any suggestions for freeing it up so that the ribbon turns more easily? Thanks

Re: Ribbon cog stiff side

Hey there I actually just dealt with this on an ultra portable, a Montana Luxe.
When you take ribbons off, the piece they slide over is like a spinning top (at least on mine)
In my case, it seemed like someone pounded on it with a hammer or something.
I had to use pliers to just pull it loose, usually once you remove the metal piece that on top it it, it pulls right off.

From there I bought small metal washers and stacked a couple over the little metal rod that the spinning-top piece sits on (wow so much terminology I don't know)...
Anyway, this made the spool sit a little higher, but allowed it to spin freely. Otherwise, it just felt wedged in too tight, and wouldn't spin at all....

You get what I'm saying? The mechanism might be different for a facet TP 1, if it is sorry about that

Re: Ribbon cog stiff side

Appreciate that - it is different but I managed to loosen it slightly and get a little bit of gun oil in there - it seems to be moving more freely now - thanks, Alan

Re: Ribbon cog stiff side

It was probably just dirty. A lot of typewriter issues are resolved through cleaning and--if needed--targeted lubrication.
