Hey everyone. I have a recently purchased Lettera 32 with a couple of problems. I've been looking at the generic repair manuals online, but I can't seem to match up anything in my machine with the manuals, so I'm lost.
First, the carriage release levers don't do anything. They just sort of flop around. I assume there should be a spring under each side, or in the middle. There's no tension on either side's lever. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I don't even know what I'm looking for.
Second, the Tab key doesn't work. I've confirmed the tab stops can be set/cleared using the lever on the left. I can see the pins being pushed either way. But when the Tab key is pressed, the machine doesn't go to the next set stop.
Then I have a third issue which I think is connected to the Tab issue. There's a mechanism underneath the machine, which I assume is releasing the escapement. From time to time, it gets stuck in the forward position and the carriage will not hold position (it just swings left). If I push it backward a bit, everything works properly again for a while. I assume the Tab function works by temporarily releasing the escapement until the next stop is hit. That's what makes me think the sliding carriage and the Tab problem are both related to that same pivot point. I don't know if that whole joint just needs some PB Blaster maybe.
There's an arm that comes out from that pivot point, bends a hair and goes straight down to the back of the machine. In the picture it looks like it's connected to the tab mechanism bar at the bottom - but it isn't connected to anything. That sure doesn't feel right to me. I can't see the purpose of an arm to nowhere...
OR, everything I just said is wrong, and I'd love for someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks everyone!

Hi Bronze
The link you have circled appears to be connected to the margin release mechanism (the very top left key on the keyboard). Your other problems all sound interconnected and I'd be inclined to say there's a spring or springs disconnected, broken or missing between the escapement rack and the carriage frame. Looks like I'm going to have to acquire another Lettera 32 just so I have one to look at for answering questions about them. All the best,
Sky
