Here's an interesting acessory - a copy holder that shunts the text upwards when you touch the green bar at the front. Can be adjusted to move one, two or three lines. Works well!

I just bought one of those for my sister, as a mystery gift. I didn't know what it was, the seller didn't know what it was, so I challenged my sister to figure it out. Which she did, and wasn't it funny that I, the typewriter collector, had sent her a copy holder without knowing what it was!

That's brilliant! And I want one. I'd certainly put it to good use given how much I type every day, but I've never seen something like that one offered for sale. There are of course plenty of modern copy holders available - I used to have a plastic one that was affixed to the side of my computer monitor - but they're boring designs in comparison to the one you've found Beak. Nice catch.
EDIT: Good news is there are plenty of them around when you use the right search terms. Now I just have to find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg in shipping.

What a wonderful thing! I wish I had something like that. I have a copyholder, but it's one of those cheap, stand-alone plastic thingies.

Went through 2 hrs worth of working drafts into final copies last night, and the thing really does do the job.
What's most amazing is just how solidly it's built. Can hardly imagine anything would be built that way today - would easily cost 250 bucks to turn out such a thing now. Shall try to find out the price when new - first made in the late 1930s, I believe, and still being made in the 1970s.

I love it and I must have one!
I only have a modern day plastic clip that doesn't even compare.
Great find!

Interersting - but it's earlier than that I believe; the patent you found is for an extra paper support added to the basic device. I don't know if this addition ever went into production - I've never seen one, if it did.

Ah, I see. I will inform my smartypants sister -- she's the one that found it!

Wow! Very cool! I hadn't seen one like that before! I would like to add one to my desk at some point too
