Hello all. I recently bought a Silent Super and have found that the carriage return lever is bent, or possibly just misaligned, so that its end slightly touches the body of the typewriter. The pictures should make this problem clear - you can see marks where it has scraped along the front of the case. The machine works perfectly despite this, but I would like to get the lever in the correct position so that it doesn't touch the case. I can't really tell if the lever is actually bent, or if it's somehow just misaligned and could be adjusted. I would greatly appreciate advice!

Check to see if there is any play where the lever pivots. If there isn't, then the lever is almost certainly bent. It should be possible to bend it back up out of the way of the ribbon cover, but try to support the pivot end when you do - otherwise you might snap the lever off !

Thanks for the advice - it was indeed bent. I took it in to Cambridge Typewriter in Mass and the owner fixed it in about ten seconds. He knew exactly how to do it without snapping the lever. Everything is working smoothly now!
