Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Yes ! Believe it or not, production only finished in 1968.  They were last being made at Remington's factory in Glasgow, Scotland.  Internally, they were pretty much the same as the 1930's model, although they received a styling update to the outer casings some time in the 1950's to make the appearance more like the Remington SJ SuperRiter.  By the time Noiseless production finished, Remington's office standard typewriter had been re-styled into the International, so the poor Noiseless was once again out of date !

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Here in the USA, production of these machines was at Middletown, CT, not far down the river from Hartford, which is where the Noiseless Typewriter Co. factory (later acquired by Remington) was located. That facility closed by no later than the early 60s, I believe. There was some significant labor strife at the plant in the 1950s, as I understand it, causing Remington to shift a lot of production away from there.

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Empire No. 2 for $100...is it worth it? Decent condition as far as I can tell. Some worn letters on the keys. Thanks, Jeff

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Just picked this up on Ebay but I didn't realize it had extra keys. Anybody know what language this is used for?

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

At first I thought Czech (the S, C and Z) but the other keys have me stumped -- Polish?

Re: Recent Acquisitions Thread

Another purchase from Ebay around the same time as the 1960 Remington Noiseless. A 1967 Smith-Corona Secretarial 76.

The only alphabet I can find with all those letters is Lithuanian.

I got one of these recently myself. Nice machine -- mine is more worn than yours though, especially on that black glossy band where the name appears. Interesting styling, curvy but with sharp angles. I bought it from the son of the couple who bought it new and used it in their business..
