I bought this for my daughter three years ago, without knowing anything at all about typewriters. Anyway, she's a student, and it has been a big hit with her and fellow students. I'd like to know more about it, starting with the model number. Cheers.

You have a late 1940's/early 1950's Remington Five. It is pretty well the same as the pre-war machine, excepting a grey crackle finish paint job and plastic keytops. The ribbons spools are not easy to find. I hope that your daughter has them !

What, Tom, you don't have them in stock?

I'll suggest she sends it to you sometime, Tom.

When all is working, is it a decent typer?

Fleetwing - I only have one left ! Really not easy to get hold of !
RobMacKillop - Thanks for the recommendation ! And yes a nice typewriter but rather agricultural compared to German typewriters of the same period.

"Agricultural" - haha, I like that description! I might get her a skywriter instead...something more manageable.
