Re: Grandfather with a typewriter

Crushed cigarette ashes are a great dry lubricant for the segment, didn't ya know?

Re: Grandfather with a typewriter

Back in the old days, when computer monitors were green, I worked for a newspaper in Puerto Rico. Everything goes on deadline, and we would smoke in the business department while racing to finish pages. On Christmas, the paste-up people would bring coolers with beer and spirits and slip booze to the copy editors. Sometimes we had so much fun that the paste-up department put text columns in the wrong order.

Re: Grandfather with a typewriter

Reading what Typeset wrote made me think of these lyrics:

Those were the days, my friend,
We thought they'd never end.
We'd sing and dance forever and a day.
We'd live the life we choose,
We'd fight and never lose.
For we were young and sure to have our way.

If you remember these lyrics, you're probably as old as I am. Yikes!

We humans go through many computers in our lives, but in their lives, typewriters go through many of us.
In that way, they’re like violins, like ancestral swords. So I use mine with honor and treat them with respect.
I try to leave them in better condition than I met them. I am not their first user, nor will I be their last.
Frederic S. Durbin. (Typewriter mania and the modern writer)
