    Why is backspace powered on this Smith-Corona Sterling electric?

    The back spacer on my Smith Corona Sterling Electric 12 is being powered for some reason. When I turn the machine on the carriage starts moving by itself in a jerky fashion.


    If I press the backspace key it stops.

    Any clue on how to solve this?
