Klein Continental Troubleshooting

Hi all,

New here and to typewriters, looking for some help! I was given a 1930s Klein Continental 340 (R080318 is the number on the back of the typewriter) for my birthday to use for my writing. However, I've run into a couple of issues and wondered if I could lean on the expertise here to troubleshoot.

1. I'm having a hard time finding a user manual online for it in English. Does anyone know any websites that keep records of Klein Continental manuals?

2. It was working fine at first, however it seems to be stuck in "caps lock" mode despite the shift/caps lock button not being pressed in. How do I go about getting at the insides to try and resolve this?

Let me know if photos or more information will help diagnose!

Thank you in advanced! I look forward to learning more about this beautiful machine

Re: Klein Continental Troubleshooting

Wow, your typewriter seems to be quite exotic Emily, It'll be interesting to see if anyone has knowledge, and what that knowledge will be.
My knowledge of old machines is limited to a 1930 Remington portable 3 and a 1949 Empire Aristocrat (Hermes Baby). Most of the issues I encountered were caused by the need for cleaning and lubricating.
Adjustment (such as caps-lock) on old machines can be simple, given a little disassembly of the outer casing.
There is lots of information about such on: (search YouTube) Phoenix Typewriter.
I hope this helps a little at least. It's an adventure.

Re: Klein Continental Troubleshooting

Oh, the most important tools perhaps are a set of screwdrivers with very thin blades.
