My Underwood Universal portable from 1934 was missing a spring on the 'H'. In trying to understand how a keylever spring is inserted, I removed the back panel which allowed nearly all springs to fall out and the keys slipping forward. I have the springs and have become pretty good at repositioning the keys and connecting bits back into the slots for the keylever, but without the springs, they simply slip forward again.
How do I reinsert the springs? I am about the remove the bottom panel that holds the springs and the tension adjustors, but this involves many connected bits, so much so that my confidence in getting all back together is quite low. Any help appreciated.

I'm adding some photos to help in what I'm dealing with on this Underwood Universal. Please see
These photos show the rear panel showing where the keylever sits in its slot seated by the notch on the keylever and held in place by the spring for that keylever. Also showing is the bottom panel that has the tension adjustments for each key, all held in position by a cover which locks each adjustment screw at settings. The cover is held in place by two screws. Also a photo of one of the springs and one other that shows what happens when the springs are not in place.
