Hello all,
I found a few typewriters in the basement.
2 of them, both Erika 147, made in GDR, Robotron info on it, seem in working order besides that the =14px carriage return =14pxlever, after a few returns, doesn't=14px turn the platen anymore, it will bring the paper up for 3-4 returns and then not anymore. The paper will not move up anymore as the platen will not turn anymore.
=14pxAny idea how to make them work again?
=14pxMany thx in advance from a typewriter-machine novice!

Perhaps someone can help if you can post some pictures of the typewriter ?

In the absence of any more details, we can only guess that the feed rollers have developed flat spots (from being in the same position for decades while the rubber hardens) so that when you feed paper the round parts of the rollers will feed it until the flats come into position and then... no more pressure against the platen. Check that and let us know what you find.

Oh, that makes perfect sense. Is there anything that can be done to alleviate that issue?
Will post pics soon, many thx for your insights

@harrysal, Sure. To alleviate the problem, if flat feed rollers is in fact the cause, you replace the feed rollers, in one way or another. The best fix is to have them recovered by J.J. Short,
. The most effective cheap way is to determine the diameter they should be (possibly the largest remaining dimension) and then remove the flatted rubber and press on a length of rubber hose of the right size (a common source is an automotive supply store). Other fixes involve building up the flat spots with tape or Sugru or such. HTHOffline
Many thx to all for your help. I will look into changing the rollers and see if it's worth the cost. Cheers!
