I have a first generation Hermes 3000 with very stiff key action, even with the touch control on its lightest setting. The lightest setting on that machine is actually stiffer than the lightest setting I have on another first generation Hermes 3000, which types with the cushioned feel that accounts for part of the appeal of that model. But the first machine? I really have to pound on those keys--much harder than on many if not most typewriters I've used.

What gives? What's wrong with that first machine and its stiff key action? Is there any way to fix this?
