My 1964 Hermes 3000 spent some of its early life in Oregon State, USA.
Made in 1964 and sold by some shop (unknown) but made a visit to the Oregon Typewriter & Recorder Co. in down-town Oregon at some time in its life.
The shop had 3 locations.
Found this newspaper scan from January 13, 1967 which had a small ad in the newspaper at the bottom of the page.
"Recorders" were time-recorders that security guards used on their regular rounds through a property/building they were patrolling. One brand of recorder was made by "Simplex".
Another form of a "Recorder" would have been a time-clock at a factory or other business.

And as far as I can tell, the Oregon Typewriter & Recorder Co. allowed its corporation paperwork to elapse and become inactive, finally, in 1993.

The shop's location at 500 SW 5th. Avenue would have placed the shop on one of the corners of the intersection of SW 5th. Avenue and SW Washington Street.
Here is a photo of that exact corner back in 1949 in a photo from the Portland Historical archives. Probably at one of the corners not seen well in the photo :

The shop was owned by Afred Aus after WWII. He was born in 1910 and passed away in 2002.
Here is a link to his obituary :

This is a great thread. Thank you for sharing your research along with the photos. The "Grantonian" would have been the newspaper of Grant High School. Interestingly, my Voss ST24 has a decal for "Office Equipment Corp.", which had two downtown Portland locations. One of which was located at 514 SW 5th Avenue, which would appear to be in the same building as Oregon Typewriter & Recorder Co..

Fascinating. I love the stories that some pieces of old equipment have to tell. There are countless others that will never be known.
My 1972 Husqvarna Viking sewing machine had a bunch of documentation in the case from the original (and apparently, only) owner. I got to trace a bit of travel of the machine from the upper midwest to the rust belt.

Thanks Guys...I cannot take all the credit for my digging.
One collector in a FB Group posted with a photo of a shop sticker on one of his machines...and that led me to the tip for "Alfred Aus" to chase down.
His sticker, below, is from an earlier time when the Company did not indicate "Recorders" as part of their sticker and the shop address was previously at 330 SW 5th. Avenue. So other office machines were added and a move up the street a bit...occurred.
