I recently acquired an SG1 Super De Luxe and like most things new to me there are questions and issues. I have been DM-ing with Uwe trying to understand the decimal tabulator. Whatever I do the tabulator keys never perform a tabbing function.
The second photo shows two similar levers but I can not find any reference to what they are for.
The only other thing showing a problem so far is the ribbon does not always advance.
I love the looks of the rounded Olympias over the later sharper edged versions. The Paper Injector Lever tickles me every time I use it. More will be revealed!

HI George,
Cannot help you with the decimal tabulator...as I do not have a machine with that set up...just standard Tabs.
But here is a link to a free pdf-file of the SG1 user manual written in English. Page 15 of this manual briefly touches base with how the decimal tabulator works.
The two (2) lever under the ribbon cover and in front of the plastic paper holders set the spring-tension for the operation of the plastic paper holders. I think if you run more carbon copies & sheets behind the typing paper, you can decrease/increase the spring tension for the plastic paper holders.

When I do my typical initial deep cleaning on any machine, I will douse both ribbon spool movement mechanisms with lots of denatured alcohol and compressed air blow outs. Usually a lack of movement I find is due to gunky ink and ribbon fiber and dust mucking up the mechanics. Only once did I find a missing small spring on one side which was easily corrected with my growing hoard of spare springs.

The chrome levers in the second pic will retract and advance the clear plastic card guides you see behind them.
To remove adhesive residue, use a product made for that purpose---in my region it is sold as Goo Gone® but I have seen similar stuff with similar names. It works quickly on fresh sticker residue but if the sticky is aged, you may have to let it soak and work it a bit. But if you have to get a price sticker off a camera lens, you're on your own!

Thanks Pete. I had just found a diagram of the levers in Munk's book and finally the text of what it was so was heading here to add it.
I've been thinking for some time now that I really need to buy a small air compressor. I worked heavy construction for 50 years and for 21 of those years I worked in the heavy equipment shop during the off season. Having access to all those tools was great. In 2000 I no longer worked in the shop and my air tools have just been getting older, unused in the tool box. For years I've missed having compressed air.
My dad used to say when something wasn't working correctly that I must be holding my mouth wrong. I don't know what else I can do with the decimal tabulator. Maybe it's just gummy somewhere. I set the tab but pressing / holding any of the keys just advances the carriage one space.

M Höhne thank you for reminding me about Goo Gone. I had bought some last fall and then promptly forgot about it!
I did notice the levers having added quite a bit of tension to the guides. The enjoy the engineering design of the SG1 as I learn more about it.

Regarding the Tab not working at all...
I would remove the carriage from the base of the machine and set the carriage aside.
Then with the base tipped on its back panel, operate the Tab bar (decimals key-tops) and trace the lever mechanism towards the back of the machine. It should result in a push rod or link towards the rear of the machine with moves up/down with Tab activations. That rod or link would need to "mate" to another part on the bottom side of the carriage.
I usually set my carriage on some wooden blocks so I can operate the Tab mechanics and see if the platen moves along the carriage. If it does, it might just mean those two "mating" pieces are not aligned and you might be able to bend/reform one or both to properly mate-up. If your platen does not move along the carriage up on wooden blocks, the problem would be in your carriage rack.
That is about the "depth" of my working knowledge with this Tab issue.
Hope some of our pros jump in to help you out.
Also...if you do FaceBook at all, there is a dedicated Group just for SG1's. Lots of helpful folks and info. to be found there, as well :

Thanks again Pete. I'll have to try and understand the diagrams of the works. As far as I can see all the decimal tab buttons are moving what they should. The questions as you mentioned is whether it is matching up or the pieces moving far enough. I do like a good puzzle and this looks to be one.
I dropped off of FaceBook about 6 months after my granddaughter was born and I realized her parents did not post much there. I started looking at Instagram when I got into fountain pens a few years back. There's not a lot of in-depth material but I do see a lot of great photos of pens, typewriters, Weimaraners, astronomy, plus a bunch of ads for things I'll never buy.
