Hi all, new to TT and new to typewriters... I've got an electric Smith-Corona 2200 that I came by for free and it appears to be in working order except that the space bar is permanently depressed on the right side of the bar and as a result when I turn the typewriter on it can only do spaces, and furthermore the carriage moves backward (so technically it only does backspaces).
I took it to a repair shop and was told that there are no parts for it and basically it's junk, but I'm skeptical because the repairman would not tell me any details at all about what was wrong and the next thing out of his mouth was "hey I've got a $200 typewriter I can sell you" so I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained - might as well try to fix it myself.
Any ideas on where to start are greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Kaylin
