Artistic Script for $64 is a steal. Congratulations!

And, a score of a price as well.
That's a nice font. I've never seen an Electra 120 advertised with that before.
Sweet machine.

Did you do a complete clean and refurb of innards?

Happy typing.

When I posted that picture, it was just a "pre-clean" - but I've since done a thorough job on everything but the platen.

Underneath the typewriter, in the case, were the original manual, warranty cards, hang tags, and various other ephemera - including about a dozen credit card carbon receipts from 1981.  Did you know, in Bozeman, MT in 1981, the price of gas was $1.38 per gallon?  Oh, for those days again...

Aloha Jim,
Congratulations on finding a treasure.  Likely, this machine hasn't been taken out of its case every since those receipts dated 1981. You've bought a "time machine".  As you use it, let your memories drift back to 1981. . . .

Are you going to send the platen out to resurface it?  (J.J. Short does it for around $95).
A new platen changes the sound a lot when the type slugs strike.

Re: S-C Electra 120 ... In-Coming

Hi Kalani,

Thanks.  I will definitely be sending one or two platens off to JJ Short - my dilemma is in deciding which one(s).  I don't think this script machine will see enough use to justify it.  However, it is a 6-series Smith-Corona, and the platens are easily swappable - so maybe I'll get one done and swap it between machines...

The cost of a F-150 was also $5,700 USD back then and we all made less money, so it's relative.  However, I suspect that the cost of gas has increased at a pace higher than inflation, but it is after all a finite resource with pricing highly influenced by myriad factors that include syndicated greed.

Re: S-C Electra 120 ... In-Coming

If anyone is looking for one (i.e. Electra 120 w/Cursive script)...there is one on eBay this week.

Seller does not mention it and you have to zoom in on one photo to see the print-on-paper.  Also, the ribbon selector only has 1-color choice.

Re: S-C Electra 120 ... In-Coming

I had put this Cursive machine on my Watch-List...and today the seller sent me an offer to take the machine from $ 110 BIN down to $ 90 BIN.  Then add the shipping.

If anyone wants to look at the current eBay cursive machine...it is here.

Maybe they will take a lesser offer...?

I was also sent a $90 offer on this same machine a month ago.  I refused it as the shipping to my location would add another $55.  The listing has been up for quite a while.

Re: S-C Electra 120 ... In-Coming

There's a nice looking Electra 120 on SGW this week that most likely is cursive.  No bids so far.
