Olivetti Studio 42 - Question...

Does anyone know what the chromed lever on the right side of an Olivetti Studio 42 is for ?

( I have circled this lever, in red, in the photo below. )

I am looking at a machine (photos only) that is missing this lever and I would like to know its function and then decide if I can substitute a lever from my parts stash to make it work.

Re: Olivetti Studio 42 - Question...

Without another machine to compare, I cannot be 100% certain but I think that it is a carriage lock.  You might have a bit of difficulty substituting since it looks to be a small casting which no doubt engages with the lock mechanism via a tongue.  That is assuming that the remainder of the mechanism is there.......

Re: Olivetti Studio 42 - Question...

According to the Italian user manual (and Google translate) the lever is indeed the carriage lock.

Re: Olivetti Studio 42 - Question...

Thanks, fellows, for your help.

At the seller's asking price, I think it best to have all the parts there.  Also...seller is non-responsive to my request for a photo of some typing-results on paper.  He also does not allow returns.

So I will pass...
