Sort of hard for folks to read when eye-glasses can no longer correct for weak clarity.

They did not even offer table-top magnifiers.  We left and did the forms at home and rescheduled.

Pete, it has baffled me for a long time wondering why forms are created the way they are and who the creator thinks will be filling it out. As writing by hand has become more challenging for me I try to remember to ask for the forms in advance. This last time I forgot and I wonder about most of the questions being asked anyway.

Yes it is getting cold outside so you have many months getting the project ready. 

Our front porch and driveway heated up to 60* F..  So I decided I could try to finish the re-paint.

The "purple iris" won the day...with my wife of 42 years being the final vote.  Suspect this will be her machine...lol

I will try to find another Traveller (maybe with Italics font) to be my "poppy red" machine...before next Spring.

Hope you are pleased with your Traveller.  I do think the made-in-Germany have a bit better feel than the Yugoslvia machines...but those are still good machines, IMHO.


1. I use satin-finish paint by Krylon or Rustoleum. Their gloss paints make it look like a cheap Vegas casino.   I will do 2-3 very thin coats of paint on each surface not trying to cover it all in 1 coat. 2-3 thin coats prevents paint “runs” from developing. 

2. I place painters blue masking tape over the Olympia name-plate(s) and the orange O-I emblem. I use my finger nail to press/shape the tape to form around the raised plastic name-plate and then use an Xacto knife to trim off the excessive tape. After the ribbon cover is painted and cured/dried; I will use a very fine artist's paint brush to add some paint to the spaces between the O & I of the logo once the masking tape is removed. 

3. I will paint the ribbon cover first (both sides) and then let the paint cure before I add peel & stick felt to the underside of the ribbon cover.

4. I also add felt to the interior of the bottom panel but do not extend the felt to under the key-tops. Figured it would be easier to remove cookie crumbs or coffee-spill clean ups, that way.

Nevermind those questions.  Watched some videos and found you pull the top straight up and off. It was so tight I was afraid of pulling too hard and breaking something, but I got it off.

As for my #2 question, the ribbon was pulled tight and not allowing the ribbon to advance and the hammers to hit but now I've loosened things and they hit properly. Unfortunately, on key strokes, the vibrator does not rise to put the ribbon in place for impressions.
This one may be going back.
