Re: Royal Parade - "Americana Junior"

Hi Mike,

I was not a real fan of the "white" that Royal used on these Americana's.  Seemed like there was an underlying grey in the white which just looked dirty to me.  The key-tops have the same thing going.

I used a Krylon "antique white" colour in satin which pleases my eye a bit more.  In a day or two, I will polish up (with car polish) the ribbon cover to give it a bit more sheen.

You were right on about using those satin finishes. The finish looks a little aged but have a nice luster.

Re: Royal Parade - "Americana Junior"

Here are my two machines (both made in 1964) side-by-side.

Still deciding if the Futura 800 will get colour for its space-bar and shift-keys.

Will give it a week or so before deciding.

I have an extra set of all the key-tops from a busted, Futura 800 parts machine...so it might be a no-brainer and I can leave the original key-tops and space-bar in the case for a future owner.

Colour splashes added to the Royal Futura 800 (Americana) with key-tops from a parts machine.

Original key-tops and space-bar now in the machine's case (for a future owner).

Re: Royal Parade - "Americana Junior"

Last bit of work completed :

1.  New ribbon vibrator (from my parts machine) with its very unique spring installed.  No more ribbon hanging-up problems.

2.  Modification of the ribbon selector lever to the exterior of the ribbon cover completed.  (I do not bring the "stencil" position forward.)

It's been fun bringing this one back to 100% with some new touches which, I think, makes it more Patriotic.

Still wondering if some "gold stars" need to be added...

Re: Royal Parade - "Americana Junior"

Mike,

I was thinking gold stars on the ribbon cover...following the outline of the open cut-out in the middle of the cover.

13 stars to symbolize our original 13 colonies.

But then it might just start looking like something Evil Knievel wore during this career...
