Hi there,
I've just bought a Facit 1620 online, and it will be in my grubby lil' hands in a couple of weeks. I am really excited about the thing, but have never touched one. Some say it is similar in touch to the Olympias, and if that is the case I will be more than satisfied, as I currently own an SM9 which is perhaps my favourite manual.
So, what do you people say?

The 1620 was the latter production by Facit of the TP1 and TP2. More and more internal plastic parts made an appearance with the 1620, such as the ribbon spool drive gears and the main-spring housing and probably a few bits more.
Between the TP1 and the 1620, there is nearly 1/2 lbs. of weight that was removed by the time the 1620 arrived.
With many Facits, the old factory-original oil has turned to hard candle-wax and a Facit might have a carriage that does not move, an escapement gear that does not move, and even ribbon spool gears that won't budge. I take lots of denatured alcohol and sometimes even lacquer thinner along with compressed air to clean out all the old candle-wax. On a couple of my machines, this took 3-4-5 times before things freed up. If you use lacquer thinner, keep it away from painted surfaces, plastic, and rubber on the machines. I use lacquer thinner as a last resort.
The carriage rail system on your 1620 is a unique "tube & bearing" system...once it is clean, your carriage will feel like it is gliding on glass.
The feel of the key-action of my machines is lighter and bit bit more loose (with side-to-side movements) than my Olympia SM3, SM4, and SM7.
I also noticed that there were versions of the 1620 with and without factory Tabulator features. Nice to have Tabs on the 1620.
The key-action of my 1620 is more like my 1968 Olympia SM9.
