Hi Kurt,

I thought the Royal portables were serial numbered in sequence and a letter-suffix referred to a model name.  But I am not sure as I do not follow Royal machines in the 1930 to mid-1940's, much.

Do you know the "feature differences" between the Signet and the Mercury  models in the 1930's to 1940's time frame ?  

For example...which had or did not have a bell, which had bi-chrome ribbon,  which had a "magic" left-margin, etc. ???

It is identical to this this mercury, but with an E suffix.

It is similar to the Signet model below, but doesn't have the gloss stripe around it.

No Bell, no right margin stop, no ruler, no ribbon color select.

Quite the mystery
