Been looking for a high-conditioned Royal QDL - Dreyfuss model for some time now.
This one will be here in a week or so.
Old owner's Dymo name-label on the case may hold an interesting story as well.
More on that later once I get the machine/case in hand and have a bit more time to find details.

Today the Fed Express turck dropped off my new-to-me Royal typewriter.
SGW in Delaware did one of the best packing jobs I have seen in all the machines that have shipped to my home in the past. 10 years or so. Even the platen knobs were cradled in protective bubble-wrap "pillows".
Even had a matching set of metal ribbon spools on the machine.
"Shimomura" on the front of the case might indicate the family/name related to a Noble Peace Prize winner (Osamu Shimomura) who lived and taught at Princeton University which is not too far from the SGW location in Delaware. He later taught at Woods Hole in Massachusetts and at Boston University School of Medicine.
He had a surviving son and daughter in that area...so I might try to chase this down a bit more.
Typewriter seems to be 100% functional and was well maintained and serviced during its life.
I simply love the touch of shiny chrome trim along both sides of the bottom of the machine for the typewriter feet. Nice touch by designer Henry Dreyfuss, for sure.
Spa-day on my garage work bench awaits me...

Spa-day work completed.
It just needed a clean and light oiling and a bit of an upper/lower case adjustment.
Used nylon ribbon on the machine for now. New silk one will be here next week.
It is a quick and responsive typewrtier. Much better than my 1947 Royal QDL. It does not hold me back.

Henry Dreyfuss...such a sad & tragic end to his life :

Yes a tragic end, suicide with his terminally ill wife. He lived and ended life on his own terms.
I see he designed your recent Royal. He was right up there with Lowey for many wonderful industrial designs.

Mike,
There were 2 versions of the "Dreyfuss" model.
Mine from 1948 to the early part of 1949.
Then from 1949 to 1950, the Dreyfuss model went to a single, lighter grey colour and added a neat chrome strip on the front panel.
I do think my machine needs a bit more chrome along its front. You can never have enough "cow bell"...
Here is a photo from the TWDB photo galleries showing the 2nd. version of the Dreyfuss model.

I prefer the first version with the dark and light.
