Can I Use The Ribbon Mechanism Of An Olympia Sge 50 On A 35?
Hi folks, the title says it all.
I have an Olympia SGE 35 that only runs carbon-film ribbons (they're 8mm wide, I think), and would very much like to convert it to regular 1/2 inch fabric ribbons.
Would it be possible to 'transplant' the ribbon mechanism of an SGE 50 (or 45) into an SGE 35?

Surely the best solution would be to find a fabric ribbon SGE35 in broken/scrap condition and simply swop all the ribbon mechanism parts over from that. That way, you would know that those parts will fit your model.

When I measure the ribbon spools spindle-to-spindle spacing on my machines... The SGE-50 is 9" center-to-center while the SGE-35 is 8-5/8" center-to-center.

Photos 4,5 below are of my SGE-35.
Hope this helps.
I think Tom's advice would be what I would consider if I were in your shoes.
Not sure how often the SGE-35's show up for sale in your part of the World, though.
