How many until you have a problem?

I was just curious on how many typewriters everyone has. It is well known know that I have a problem in my school with six machines. I know others have more, but I was just curious HOW much more and for how long. I aquired 6 machines (I gave my Smith-Corona Silent-Super away to someone) since September. So in about three and a half months. I would love to know about other people's collection.

Re: How many until you have a problem?

If I'm counting right, I think I'm up to 15 (13 in the house, two awaiting transport from my sister's house in Florida). That's starting to feel like too many to me. Not because of storage -- I live alone and have a lot of shelving in my house -- but because I like to use the machines, and there just aren't enough hours in the day to play with them all. I will probably start weeding a bit soon. But I'll still end up with 7, 8, 10, something like that.

I sometimes feel like that I have too much with just six. I have found a purpose more-or-less for each one though. But the next one I get will probably get sold to someone.

How long have you been collecting?

Re: How many until you have a problem?

I have a total of 7. I bought 3 myself, and 4 were given to me/my partents already had. I think that I would stop myself at 10 or so. I've kind of decided just to stick to Olympias in order to attempt limit how many I end up with ;)

Re: How many until you have a problem?

...That's quite interesting. Because I have 7 machines now too. 3 I bought with what little money I have left and 4 were donations/gifts. I think I'll end at 10 too. It's just a nice round number.

It's a good idea, but just off the top of my head I can think of around 30 different Olympia models, not including electric models or component changes within the same model range. If you were to add pre-Olympia branded models there would be a lot more (AEG, Mignon, etc...). You might be better off switching to Facit if you wanted to limit yourself to ten or so machines...

I try to limit myself to jst Olympias and Royals, but I think I'll ave to eliminate Royal because there are just so many...

Re: How many until you have a problem?

Funny, I was just doing a count today, "two in there, one in here, no, two in here, three in there, two upstairs, one there, one....." I think I have ten that work well enough to use for novel writing. It's really only space and money which restrict my collecting.
I keep on saying "I'm done, that's it, no more typewriters!'" and then I see something... Remington portables are my weakness...
