The typewriter is all metal construction; assume the same as yours (I agree it makes for a heavy unit).
Although the bottom of the case has four feet, which indicates that it has been designed to function as a table pad, the hinge does not permit the removal of the case lid.

I use the great free FASTONE image viewer, and it has a simple and useful resize option - I just make the image in FASTONE look the size I'd like it to appear in the post; saves all that pixel counting and fuss.
