Re-Keying Keychopped typewriters?(Update SUCCESS!)
Is it possible?
May be take some brass stock ansd solder to to the keylevers then
Try and attach some kind of key
Maybe those wood typewriter keys like these?
or how about geting some thin wall copper tube cutting it to size
hammering the front down to produce a lip then get some glass circles cut to fit
as for the base of the key I would just use brass stock again.
Wonder if it would work?

Surely the issue would be what there is left to attach the keys TO... the word 'chop' seems like it might be critical to the discussion.

Whoo, sounds like a big job. It's not something I'd have the expertise to finish for sure.
Where would obtain such a machine? I'd have trouble _buying_ a typewriter from someone who chopped it, because I wouldn't want to be adding to their profit from destroying a functional machine.

Apparently the people that have them would rather give them away then scrap them

I just spent some time looking online, and I can't find anyone who has done this before. I'm sure you've looked more thoroughly than my quick searh though. I hope that you will keep us posted if you decide to attempt it. I'd love to see the final result

When going through ebay recently, I saw my first keychopped machine. The seller showed the poor Royal intact before the keys were chopped and then the pile of keys afterward! I couldn't believe the gall of the seller!

I would try finding the originalkeys of the machine, THEN soldering or whatever you plan on doing.
I dont think wood keys would look very good.

I think some different keys could look pretty cool. Sort of Franken-typer.
