Never heard of hipsters before you guys started mentioning them. :D
I hadn't either, but at 50, am probably hopelessly square. "Don't trust anyone over 30!"
See? I probably don't even know the "hip" lingo & catch phrases. ; )
Looked "hipster" up & ran across fun cartooon
What's a 2,000 Martin?
Anyway, back to topic. Portable I considered was a Royal "Diana" model because wife has same name. Typewriter with her name on it. Cool!
Then I saw how much it cost. 190 bucks. : 0 !
One guy's blog from 2010 says he'd never pay over $100 for a typewriter.
Where is everyone finding these things? Etsy is worse than e-bay. Even local shops and estate sales seem pretty consistant. Just my luck. Typewriters are "trendy" and the "in thing" so prices have gone up?

I think Martin refers to a guitar. My husband has one, but he's not a hipster, lol.

Now that you pointed it out, guitar makes sense. Thought it was a book bag. ; )
Hipster apparel is regional? "Beatnik" black turtle neck sweater optional when it's 100 degrees outside in San Antonio.
Cool shades & black beret - mandatory.
Students in the news story were fine art majors: shorts, torn jeans, sandals, and tee's with favorite bands, or social statements.
Two of them interviewed were very articulate. Explained typing with others part of the creative process. Compare & critique poetry or short stories, brain storm, etc.

Valiently trying to stay on topic since new here.
Ribbon for Royal #10 arrived today. Hopefully machine itself by Monday.
Very long story about seller and me. She's Quebec French, and I'm Louisiana French. Once we found out "langage similaire" we really hit it off. Think she gave me a break on the price, and sent if expedited even though only charged for economy. "Merci beaucoup!"

Félicitations! Google translate tells me that's French for congratulations? I took two years of French, yet could not remember that. I hope the Royal is fabulous

Hello everyone!
I'm new to the forum, and have come to see if anyone can help me do something 'special' with a typewriter. I've posted my question on the general forum, but it doesn't look like I can link to it yet until I get a few posts under my belt.
*Edit* link here:
I hope everyone had a good weekend!

I feel a bit sheepish doing this, but I'm going to sneak in another post because in order to ask my question I need to post a picture, and i can't post pictures until I do two posts!
Please forgive me!

Thanks! Yes, "félicitations" = "congrads!"
Anyway, typewriter got here today and works fine! Yay!
So I'm a happy camper-- especially after reading the shipping disasters topic!

Hi Eidrog,
New here myself. I think to avoid spammers, the count has to be either three or six posts. (Probably in the FAQ somewhere.) Also suggests photos 800px wide.
Hopefully this post will go through. If not, you and I are in the same boat. Shamelessly pad total until have photo privilages!
Anyway, nice meeting you. Now off to go play with my new toy!
Brian
PS: seems to allow, but I have to type in catchpa. Hopefully this will go away after 10 posts?
