ABC

Found this beauty on a danish site for virtually nothing.
I'm just about to seal the deal, but wondered if anyone has experience with them.
It's called abc as you can see, but I think I've seen something very similar named Cole Steel or Cold Steel or something.
Price: 35 danish kroner wich equals a little more than 5$. Personally I think the shape alone is worth a fiver.

Re: ABC

Looking at an Alpina site some time back, I saw some very good machines re-badged as ABCs, including some Alpinas.  I don't recognize the machine in your photo (someone here will!) but it may be from a more widely known maker (?).

Sincerely,
beak.

Re: ABC

In my experience it's one of the worst typewriters ever made. I've come across five of them locally, and four of them didn't work. And the one that did work had a $150 price tag on it. I have a Cole Steel - it's a rebranded ABC - and it's become the bane of my typewriter collection. These machines are notorious for their faulty escapements, which is the problem with my Cole Steel, one that countless hours of tinkering has yet to solve.

If the ABC you're looking at is actually working then why not buy it? The price is ridiculously cheap, so you won't be disappointed when it begins to act up!

Here's my Cole Steel and my plea for help, which so far has gone unanswered.

For 5 dollars, you cant go wrong.

Back from a long break.

Starting fresh with my favorite typer. A Royal Futura!

Re: ABC

I have to admit, that owning a mint version of one of the worst typewriter's ever made has its upsides when I think about it. Like having an unbreakable chinese car or smoking a healthy pibe tobacco.
I thank you all and I'll get back with all the wrongs and rights of my new purchase.
By the way... How much would you pay for a mint condition (yes, really), green, 1932 Olivetti Ico MP1? Some kid online is selling his "granddad's old junk"... Yup. That's his exact words.

That's a question best left to someone more local to you, a fellow European at least. What I would pay for one here in Canada, where they don't turn up very often, is not really relevant to your situation.

Re: ABC

That's true I guess. I've asked him to check the serial number and at first he couldn't find it. Now he's taken of the frame and looked more carefully and texted me last night. He found an ingraved number in it that says 950. I can see from the TWdatabase that the MP1's started from zero, so 950 is actually a possibility.
