NEED HELP! Just sold a typer on eBay!

Just sold my first machine on ebay. I know how to pack it from other threads, BUT none have mentioned, should I engage Shift Lock? So the typebasket doesnt move around?

Which machine is it? If you fill the type basket with wadded newspaper and the pack the rest of the machine properly the basket (or the type bars) wont be able to move around.

The pronoun has always been capitalized in the English language for more than 700 years.

Its an Olivetti Lettera 32. I already engaged shift lock. I filled the typebasket with newspaper, but it was pushing down on the type basket, so I figured I  would engage shift lock. I just put it in a box and stuffed it with newspaper. The basket didnt move at all.

Did you make sure the carriage is safely secure? The carriage could be severly damaged if it just moves around during transport. Make sure the carriage lock is one and it is wrapped up tightly.

A high schooler with a lot of typewriters. That's pretty much about it.

The carriage lock is on, and i packed lots of newspaper in the sides of the case, and stuffed it. The typebars are secure. And then, I wrapped the typewriter with plastic and stuffed the case with more paper. Then I put paper down isnside of the box, and put in the typewriter + case, and then stuffed the box with paper. I shook the box around a little, and I couldnt feel any movement.

Re: NEED HELP! Just sold a typer on eBay!

It sounds to me like it should be all right. Padding and lots of it is the key. The saying goes, 'If you can shake it, they can break it' - and it sounds as if you did lots of protection inside the case.

Is is one of those soft, narrow Lettera cases with the stripe down it? There's not a lot of room inside those...

Re: NEED HELP! Just sold a typer on eBay!

Your right. Theres not, but I managed to stuff it and shut the case without strecthing the case or anything. I just shipped it out...
